Some of the work that the Student Council has done to date consists of:
- Student voice promotion- regarding recent move to 1 hour classes- full school survey of student opinion
- Biodiversity tree strip including 6 Quercus spp. Funded by Mr. Paceli Walsh and Irish Forestation Association
- Elliptical plant bed at the front of the school, funded by Parents Association, designed planted and maintaining by Gash Gardens Castletown
- Canice Sheeran funded €1,000 Bark mulch for elliptical plant bed.
- 1,000 Daffodils will be planted at the front of the school over a 3 year period funded by MCS
- Holocaust Ireland donated 250 crocus blubs which were planted 1st year students.
- Sourced 4 Tillia spp. Trees for outside canteen at the back of the School.
- Planted a Prunus spp. tree at the front of the school to mark 10th anniversary of MCS.
- ISSU cards are annually set up as ‘pop up shops’
- Probiotic yoghurts launched in canteen in 2018 in canteen and introduced nationwide
- Policy Reviews
- Guest speakers – Fr. Sean McDonagh Eco theologian on Climate and Environmental change. Dr. Sarah Gundy NUIG on Biomedical Science.
- Scoreboard – Mr. Liam O’Neill provided hurling tickets for All Ireland Final 2019. Students raised €2200.
- Granite seat made by OMOS for the front of school building at a cost of €1800 funded by Mr. Dan Tynan from Raheen.
- 6th year students have an additional designated space for lunch
- Approached Laois County Council for wooden bollards to be placed at the grass perimeter sites outside of the fence at the front of the school for health and safety reasons.
