Elma Walsh – Mother of the late Donal Walsh

Good afternoon everyone.

Welcome back after your midterm break. I am sending you this message to inform you that Elma Walsh, mother of the late Donal Walsh; the Kerry teenager who died of cancer on May 12th, 2013 at the age of 16 years, will be here in the school on Tuesday 27th of February.

You may remember, a jersey day that was held late in the first term, organised by Aideen Phelan and Abbey Lalor, both in second year. The intention of this fund raising day, was to raise, collect and donate money to the “Donal Walsh #LiveLife” Foundation. The money will be handed over to Elma next week.

Knowing the parents of Donal personally, I contacted them and asked if they could come and visit the second years to talk about Donal, his life and his legacy. They welcomed this invitation and hence Elma’s visit next week.

I am attaching a PPT presentation, that most second years have seen. They saw this as a way of introducing them to Donal Walsh. And I know that a couple of them have used Donal as their ‘Person of Commitment’ in CBA 1 in Religious Education. I am attaching it here so that you may like to familiarise yourselves with this inspirational young man, who did so much during his short life.

If you are free, please feel free to come at listen to Elma, in the canteen, at 12:30pm or 2pm on the 27th.

Regards
Dermot
