Parents' Newletter 12th March 2021

12th March 2021

Dear Parents/Guardians.

We are very much looking forward to welcoming our 5th years back to school on Monday the 15th March 2021. It is hard to believe that it is a calendar year today since the first lockdown. Little did we know on Thursday the 12th March 2020 that we would still be in this position this year. However, there is an end in sight.
The return to school of the 6th years happened two weeks ago and it has been very successful so far mostly due the safety precautions put in place and also due to strict adherence to COVID prevention guidelines. It is very important that students, parents and staff understand that it is the strict adherence to COVID guidelines, which will allow us to continue in school. The 6th years have been amazing and really helpful in the last two weeks. We are sure that the 5th years will be too, when they return on Monday. We would like to point out, however, that the behaviour of everyone will determine the return to school for all, which will hopefully happen on Monday, the 12th April 2021. It is great that there is an end in sight.
Wellbeing Link:
Well done to two girls of the Amber Flag team, who created this Wellbeing Link. They worked on it themselves and hoped it would be of some benefit to the students in the school. It is a link to a variety of mental health services for young people. We think that it is a fantastic resource and shows great initiative on their part.
They also wanted to highlight the following freephone numbers.
  • Pieta House - 1800 247 247
  • Samaritans Ireland - 116 123
  • Childline - 1800 66 66 66 or text 50101
Buseireann school transport applications for new entrants are open now. The closing date is Friday, the 30th April 2021.

Senior Option Night
Thanks to all, who attended the Virtual Senior Option Night. It was so full that we had to open a 2nd Google Meet. We have sent all of the information out on Compass again for anyone, who was not able to get in. Thanks to all the teacher who were involved. Closing date for TY applications is the 19th March. The closing date for LCA Applictions and the submission of the 5th year options is the 26th March 2021.

WiFi Issues
We are having WiFi issues in the school, which may lead to problems next week with online classes. It is very difficult for teachers, who will now be trying to go between 5th, 6th year and on line classes so please bear with us. We hope that the WiFi issues will be resolved next week.

Again we are looking forward to having the 5th and 6th years back in the building on Monday. We thank you for your continued support and cooperation. We are really looking forward to the day when we have all the students back in the school. We wish you a lovely weekend. We are nearly there – Monday is the next step on the way back to normality.

Kind regards, :-)
